Operators who notice increased fuel consumption, more frequent DPF warning lights, or oil that smells of fuel before the scheduled service date are often looking at a regeneration pattern problem rather than a single component failure.
Shorter oil service intervals than the manufacturer's standard recommendation are a practical response to this operating environment. The fuel dilution occurring through frequent active regeneration means the oil's lubricating properties degrade faster between services than they would in a vehicle doing more varied driving.
